My letter to Senators Sessions and Shelby on Sotomayor
Whether you agree or disagree with my thoughts in this woman's nomination, I know from "insiders" that letters- NOT PHONE CALLS- carry much more clout in Washington DC. By snail mail or fax, if you have an opinion to express, this is the most effective way to get their attention.

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions

Russell Senate Building

Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator,

Since the day Barack Obama assumed the Presidency- a position I am not yet convinced he is Constitutionally qualified to hold- I feel like I'm watching a massive train wreck in slow motion and am powerless to do anything about it.

With the nomination of Judge Sonya Sotomayor, I believe the President has sanctioned bigotry. I found her remarks claiming superior judicial skills to white men to be no more acceptable than any other racist comment. The President's emphasis on "empathy" in making this choice is another example of his disdain for the Constitution- a document has come to take on the significance of wallpaper in the Obama administration.

We need someone with courage to take the President's suggested "dialogue on race" to the floor of the Senate and point out that bigotry is a 2 way street. A Latina supremacist is no better than the likes of David Duke. Such attitudes from any corner of America are repugnant- and I find this woman's remarks offensive and divisive. Sotomayor’s birth as a Latina, as she describes herself, does not entitle her to special powers or wisdom. She disqualified herself with her derogatory comment about white men (we have feelings too!), along with her haughty claims of policy making decisions while serving on the Court of Appeals. If that is truly her position,, then why do we need Senators or Congressmen? It seems, in her opinion, that the Judicial Branch usurps the Executive and Legislative branches of government.

I wholeheartedly embrace the appointment of a Hispanic person to the Supreme Court and there are many other qualified candidates. The Supreme Court is no place for a supremacist of any ethnic background. .

Thank you for your service to the citizens of Alabama.
